Description
Welcome to Deaf Bikers UK…
Deaf Bikers – Who and what we are;
The Deaf Bikers was formed in August 1999. Our first meeting was at the “Eclipse run” where a large group of Deaf motorcyclists from all parts of the United Kingdom met on one campsite in Cornwall. Now, we keep in touch with groups via yahoo email on various things such as Bike runs, meetings, sharing of information, etc.
The Deaf Bikers club is run on a volunteer basis, is non-profit making and caters for deaf and hard of hearing motorcyclists of all ages, both male and female. Bikes range from 50cc moped to unlimited size. Over the past few months, we’ve met at various meeting points, attend motorcycle rallies, shows, camping weekends, bike runs etc.
The Deaf Bikers club aims are not only to bring together motorcyclists who are deaf or hard of hearing and socialise, but also, to collectively fight against discrimination wherever possible. We strive to improve and ensure safety amongst our members. We also lobby parliament on issues of road use and public awareness of motorcyclists. We deserve recognition and to ride our own motorcycles and enjoy and preserve our biking lifestyle!
Deaf Bikers UK are affiliated to MAG (Motorcycle Action Group) also in contact with several motorcyclist groups such as BMF (British Motorcycle Federation), NABD (National Association for Bikers with a Disability), BikeSafe with Metropolitan Police and few other organisation / groups. The first two are political groups, which form a part of a consultation to the government agencies and fighting for our right to preserve the safety on the road.
We made our first European tour with a group of Deaf Bikers to Belgium during May 2002. Since then we’ve made several other successful European tours including a full Scandinavian Tour. At the same time we meet regularly at different locations around the UK during the Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons.
We received generous support from MAG, NABD, Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and various other groups. As you are aware, CMA is actively supporting Deaf bikers UK in past several events.
We hope to raise funds which will allow us to organise more events. If you wish to make a donation to Deaf Bikers UK please contact Liane Carrick, PR of Deaf Bikers UK (in contact us page).
